Parish Hall, St Mary’s Haddington Road,

TUESDAY 8 APRIL 6.30 pm.

All welcome

The St Mary’s Education Committee will host the launch of a new book on Pope Francis to coincide with the first anniversary of his election.  This volume of essays, The Francis Factor – A New Departure, edited by John Littleton and Eamon Maher, seeks to elucidate what constitutes the ‘Francis Factor’.

Authors include: Tina Beattie, Peter McVerry, SJ, Louise Nelstrop, Mary T. Malone, Timothy Radcliffe, OP, Richard Rohr, OFM and John Waters.

There is a significant Haddington Road contribution to the book, as it includes chapters by Patrick Claffey SVD and Michael Collins. According to one critic “The result is a highly thought-provoking and readable account of Francis the public and private man.”

The book will be launched by Patsy McGarry, Religious Affairs Editor of the Irish Times

 Patrick Finn Lecture—Thursday 10 April, 8pm
Jean Vanier, humanist, philosopher, theologian and man of letters, is described  by his own companions as, above all else, a man of the heart, with a passion for humanity, truth and peace.  He is acknowledged to be one of the extraordinary witnesses to the gospel of life of our time, one of those people who bring us back to what the Good News is really all about.
Jean Vanier Poster2 L’Arche, the movement he founded in 1964, has spread throughout the world. Tim Kearney, whose brother Richard gave a previous lecture at Haddington Road, is founder of L’Arche community in Cork and is currently a member of the Leadership team of L’Arche International.  He is also an author interested in creative ways of building peace and believe in the transforming powers of the vulnerable in society. This promises to be a very inspiring lecture in what has been a very inspiring 2014 series.
